Risk assessments and Microbiological analysis

Harmful bacteria such as Legionella can be found in hot and cold water systems. The Legionella bacteria occurs naturally in water such as lakes, rivers and other watercourses. Although they are not a danger in these circumstances when they develop in badly managed water systems in commercial or domestic properties it becomes a problem. The ideal conditions for the development of this type of bacteria can be found in our water systems throughout the UK.
Legionella is able to colonise in manmade hot and cold water systems and the bacterium thrives in stagnant water temperatures of approx 40 degrees. Many of our hot and cold services in the UK provide ideal breeding grounds for harbouring bacteria of this nature and becoming a potential risk to the end user. At sweetbriar Ltd we survey the water service system in all different types of properties identifying all associated risks for the development and harbouring of biofilms and waterborne pathogens. We produce a full risk assessment and action plan to fully reduce the risk.
The risk assessment and water management plan involves ;
1. Main survey and overview of services including : responsible persons and schematics of the pipework layout and plant.
2. Inspection sheets – inspection of all hot and cold services/ storage vessels and calorifiers, identifying problems such as poor water temperatures and dead legs.
3. Risks assessment ratings and action plans.
4. Log books- including maintenance logs and actioned work.
5. Photographic evidence.
6. Water sample testing logs.
7. Method statements.
8. Safety Datasheets.
9. Dip slide testing logs.
10. Chlorination certificates and laboratory testing reports ( UKAS approved).
11. Action plan for responsible onsite persons to carry out temperatures checks, flushing of little used outlets and shower head maintenance.
For larger commercial propertities we are able to train the onsite responsible person with the relevant procedures required to carry out their regular onsite maintenance checks. A log book is supplied to record all necessary data to compliment the Water management plan.

Microbiological analysis
Sweetbriar ltd provides the client with a full bacteria analysis from an annual check for potable water quality to a full out break procedure test.
Our independent UKAS laboratory provides testing for bacteria such as :
- Aerobic colony counts
- Coliform bacteria,
- Legionella,
- Pseudomonas
-
And many more.
Results are available from 48 hours for the potable water quality to 12-14 days for your Legionella samples. All results are supplied with a full microbiological breakdown and certification.
